Diddy Wah: Diddy Wah goes gospel
Monday was Easter Monday and so I got my gospel on for this sanctified instalment of the Diddy Wah radio saga. Joshua, Elijah, Shadrach, Meshach and all the old testament crew were shaking hands, shouting, marching and generally feeling alright. It was a happy day.

mp3: Richard Berry - Besame Mucho

Here's one of the Richard Berry records that Flip released between Louie Louie in 1957 and Have Love Will Travel in 1959. Yep, you guessed it, Besame Mucho arrived in record stores for the first time in 1958. I've posted several versions of this, famously written by a fourteen year old girl and the most covered Mexican song of all time, but this is my fave so far.

    Disco Vinyl: ENDGAMES from SCOTLAND
ENDGAMES were formed in 1980 in Glasgow, Scotland and put out a few synth pop records.  Several of these have become quite collectible and sound great even today.  In my zip I'm going to give you a couple of my favorites both from 1983, Love Cares and Ecstasy.
Waiting for Another Chance from their 1983 l.p. Building Beauty was a big hit in Germany breaking the Top 30 while Miracle in my Heart the b side of the delicious Ecstasy was later sampled by Heavy D.

If you haven't heard them I suggest you get their two album Building Beauty and Natural.  You should find plenty to enjoy.
First, Last for Everything from 1982 is probably their biggest classic and a real seminal electronic dance song that went on to be a WBMX classic spun by greats like Frankie Knuckles.

mp3: Johnny Adams - Come On

Johnny Adams had a very long singing career, but this is from way back near the start of it. Come On was released in 1959 on Ric Records out of New Orleans, Adams' home town. I love the way NOLA R&B is all interconnected; the fantastic production is thanks to a teenage Mac Rebennack. The backing vocals are the icing on cake for me, so I guess that makes the whistle solo the cherry. I played this record twice at Joe's last night, but that wasn't nearly enough.

discosafari - BOOT & TAX - Fusci Ep - Optimo Trax

Boot & Tax return with their second EP following the success of the sold out "Acido" EP which received a multitude of plays from a plethora of djs in a profusion of discotheques.
These Milanese maestros deliver four dance floor delights in their own inimitable and distinctive style. Working across a range of tempos and incorporating more of Boot's great vocalising they also manage to weave a Jaw's Harp solo in there and make it seem like a potential replacement for the TB 303.
This also takes us to 50% of Optimo Trax so far being of Italian origin. We're not entirely sure how this happened but despite rumours to the contrary, we are open to releasing music from other countries within or outwith the EU.

Optimo Trax OT 008 is released on 12" and digital June 2014. Distribution by Kompakt and Rub A Dub.

Another Night on Earth: planet of winds
Ralph Lundsten is a real favourite of mine, though mainly his 70's and early 80's records. Diggers know him well and many a leftfield Disco dj has been heard playing that amazing Discophrenia record. He's incredibly inventive and can weave a thick fog of scenic atmosphere's like few other, his music is also often filled with beautiful intricate and evolving melodies... this makes him easy to obsess over... which i do. So... here's 'The Planet Of Winds' from his 1977 lp with The Andromeda Allstars, an amazing easy funkin groove underpins this journey to far gone places. Huge!
